You can visit Portugal all year round; however, I think spring is the best time to visit. You can also visit during the fall season. Summer months are the most crowded and expensive. In spring and fall, the weather is mild, with fewer crowds and lower costs. In the winter months, from October to February, it’s cold and rainy, so you may face some difficulties covering everything.
During the summer months, from June to August, you will see crowds everywhere—from buses to tourist spots, hotels, and restaurants. Additionally, summer in Portugal is very hot.
Portugal has many festivals throughout the year. June is packed with festivals, and one favorite for both locals and visitors is the Festas de Santo António, celebrated in Lisbon. You can see colorful decorations, especially in the Baixa-Chiado area, and people grilling sardines on the streets. The parties happen in every corner of the city, and you can witness fabulous parades. The main celebrations start on the night of June 12th and continue until June 13th, Santo António’s feast day.
In my opinion, if you want to experience everything, you should visit in September. The days are long, so you can enjoy beaches, sightseeing, outdoor activities, and much more. Also, the harvest season starts from September to October, and you can visit wine festivals to experience the winemaking process, including grape-picking activities.
Spring is a fantastic time to visit Portugal, offering mild weather, fewer crowds, and blooming flowers all over the country. Cities and historic sites come to life with bright colors and flowers. If you’re here after Easter, don’t miss the Madeira Flower Festival (Festa da Flor), one of Portugal’s most famous and vibrant festivals, held annually in Funchal, the capital of Madeira. Trust me, it’s one of the best experiences you’ll have.
No matter when you choose to visit, Portugal’s beauty, culture, and warmth will ensure an unforgettable experience.
