The best reason I like Portugal is because of its climate. I feel very comfortable here. It’s neither too warm nor too cold in winter, unlike other European countries, and it offers plenty of sunshine throughout the year, with an average of 300 sunny days per year. Summers are warm, dry, and sunny with clear skies, while winters are cold and wet, with little sunshine and cloudy skies.
Portugal’s climate varies from region to region, but the country experiences four seasons: summer, winter, autumn, and spring. The average temperature in winter is 17°C, and in summer, it’s 27°C. January is the coldest month in Portugal, and August is the hottest month. The southern region of Algarve has the best climate in Portugal. The Algarve is famous for its beaches, long sunny summers, and mild winters.
Northern Portugal is the coldest region. It doesn’t snow in winter, except in a few areas in the mountain ranges, like Serra da Estrela. Meanwhile, Madeira, an island off the coast, has a subtropical climate, perfect for year-round tourism.
For me, the best time in Portugal is July and August, as it’s very warm and dry, and you can travel anywhere during this time. In July and August, temperatures peak, and some places in Portugal experience wildfires. In Lisbon, the average temperature in July and August is around 30-35°C at times. So if you don’t like this kind of heat or warm weather, it’s better to avoid these two months.
October is generally known as the rainy season in Portugal. December and January are considered proper winter months in Portugal; however, temperatures are usually around 5-10°C. After March, it’s spring in Portugal, and the weather is more comfortable. In Lisbon, you can see beautiful flowers lining the streets.
